I have just returned from the 2005 Aesthetic Plastic Surgeon's Meeting in New Orleans. An update was given on the status of cohesive silicone gel implants recently reviewed by the FDA advisory panel. According to the data, the implants produce a superior cosmetic result and are safe. The panel wants longer term safety data which they will see in the next few months.
Plastic surgeons are confident that the new implants will be approved in the next year or so. Patients with thin skin whom are prone to rippling or wrinkling of the skin will benefit most from the new implants. For more information, see the Breast Implant Safety web site, and stay tuned......
